We
live in a tremendously vibrant, diverse and colourful society. One
society, many different
subcultures…..60 million individuals.
Little
can do more damage to our society than fractures caused by racism.
Whilst racism is not seen as an issue for society as a whole these
divisions will continue to exist.
2004
is a decisive year in the fight against racism as the BNP are pushing
for an electoral breakthrough that may bring them out from the margins
of British politics -something that our society cannot afford to
let happen. Far right parties like the BNP prey on the vulnerabilities
within our communities, casting social problems as cultural ones,
inciting race hate and causing cultural barriers.
Our
music is a living testament to the fact that cultures can and do
mix. Music unites us and gives us strength, while racism seeks only
to divide and weaken us. No matter what genre, music brings us together
and offers a vibrant celebration of our multicultural and multiracial
society.
Working
closely with leeds unity, Unite against Fascism, the GMB and other
interested parties United By Music has joined together many of the
region’s best musicians, dj’s, venues and promoters
to create a month long festival as a celebration of our music and
a stand against racism in an effort to generate awareness about
the oncoming elections. If you’d like to get involved, run
your own anti racism event or have any inquiries please contact
