WHAT CAN BE DONE
We have to be active - it’s not enough to privately disapprove of racism. Unity is the key here, since fighting together is the most effective way of challenging racism. We are stronger when we are united. By building awareness and uniting communities we can confront racism at every level and expose it’s causes for what they really are.
By making people aware of the dangers inherent in the growth of the BNP and in them gaining a more widespread credibility is fundamental in halting the spread of racism in the UK. Everyone can have an affect on the future of this fascist party and there may be no time more important than in the upcoming elections.
The lethargy to vote, brought about by the many peoples feeling that their votes will not make a difference, is something that the BNP rely on. The BNP has a limited number of voters in each region and these will be disproportionately represented in the final results if the total voter turnout is low. In both the Local and especially the Euro elections, the higher the number of voters the harder it will be for the BNP to win. Going out to vote is taking positive action against the BNP. Not voting isn’t just a waste of a vote but it’s aiding the BNP’s campaign.
Reducing the BNP vote in its core areas will further help in preventing it from winning at a European level as well as minimising the number of local councillors elected.
Alongside getting out and voting, national and localised campaigning are paramount in defeating the BNP and exposing their true colours.
